Bass Coast Shire Council kicked off a fantastic start to a new year and a new SPL series. The oversized scissors cut through the inaugural (and pointless) Red ribbon ritual, fortunately no onions were consumed during the event and not a single baby was kissed. South Eastern Regional Series Round 1 at Wonthaggi Skate Park went off like a frog in socks!
There is no beating around the bush, Wonthaggi SERS delivered an explosion of skateboarding madness. Board riders of all calibre performed at an impeccable level. 12 & Under finished with Jake Bill in 1st, Nate Axford in 2nd & Leon Parker blazing the park to end in a well-deserved 3rd . Special Mention to Dali Shaw for his Ninja moves on an immense blunt to fakie. Demo mode was the motive for Adam Knowles (1st) incredible performance in the 16 and under. However late rego contender Taj Sleeman (2nd) made some super smooth moves and put up some serious competition for Knowlesy. Open division witnessed all three place winners hucking big and gapping down the large bank. Open’s resulted in – Anthony Wilson (3rd) Josh Sheeran (2nd) and Brad Saunders (1st). Wonthaggi concluded in style with Charlotte Heath whippin’ up a storm as the only female contestant.Big ups to Fybian and Paul from Bass Coast YMCA for supporting and organising such a killer day! Another massive thanks goes out to our local sponsors Vortex and Cross Over Cycles for getting behind an awesome community event.
