There is nothing more rewarding than sharing the skateboarding awesomeness, especially when we get to immerse ourselves in the amazing multicultural landscape!
We have been fortunate to work with the many diverse communities that make this country so unique and rich. Hume is a particularly special one.
Here are some highlights of our work in the ‘All Aboard’ program that has been running with Hume Valley School (above), Penola College (below), and the Broadmeadows English Language School.
We have been working with the Broadmeadows ESL campus for their ‘Community Connections’ subject for secondary school students, and we also participated in the recent All Faiths Festival at the Hume Global Learning Center.
Rachel with some of the newly-arrived secondary students she has been teaching at Broadmeadows. The happiness these students show skateboarding is contagious; many did not know what a skateboard was growing up.
A few of the Syrian girls got off the stage after a traditional dance showcase and proceeded to get on a skateboard. With wide smiles and determination (and a patient father) – they were rolling comfortably.
After teaching skateboarding, Rachel hopped off her skateboard and was promptly invited to join in on the African dance on stage in which she embraced with joy (and the last sources of energy from the day)
Skateboarding is a universal language. (heart emoji, peace sign) – Ownlife
